Oh Fondue....how I love you...
Today was the 3rd anniversary of my first date with MI boy. It's technically our 'unofficial' anniversary of the day we started dating. (maybe I'll get into that 'unofficial' explanation in another blog) So to celebrate in an OH SO Delicious way, we decided to go to our favorite fondue place, Geja's Cafe on Armitage in Chicago. We live right around the corner from there and let me tell you - even if lived 100 miles away I would find a way to get here for dinner. This place is awesome. Not only is it voted 'Most Romantic place for dates', but the food is excellent. First you have to be comfortable with the idea of 'cooking' your own food at your table to really get into it. Once you're excited about that, everything else is a piece of cake. We started out with the cheese fondue appetizer. No cooking involved here. Just dip apples, bread and grapes in the oh so cheesy goodness and enjoy! Next comes the main course. We order the 'International' special. It comes with all of the following raw meats and veggies: beef, chicken and shrimp, potatoes, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and broccoli. You jab a piece of your choice with the skewer fork and pop that baby in the bubbly oil for a quick fry. Always make sure you chicken is well done. The beef you can cook to your liking as well as the veggies. Once you have a few pieces ready you can dip them into any of the following sauces and dips: honey mustard, cumin, dill, horseradish, melted butter, barbecue, teriyaki and for the shrimp there is cocktail sauce. Mixing and matching all the meats, veggies and sauces is the best...it's a whole world of different flavors. (To compliment my meal I enjoyed a glass of Malbec wine - these grapes only grow best in Argentina, as I've heard) After the main meal, the server clears the table and brings another fondue pot filled with CHOCOLATE!!! The server lights a flame over the chocolate and creates a roaring blue and light orange fire in the pot to roast some marshmallows! Other things to dip in the chocolate are pineapple, light and fluffy pound cake cubes, cantaloupe, apples, bananas and of course - STRAWBERRIES!!! Why do these red babies go so well with chocolate....damn good. Needless to say we were full to the limit. One more bite and MI boy would have had to roll me home! We had an excellent dinner. I would recommend trying fondue if you haven't...yum.
